The blurb:

Miss Katherine Larch has the great disadvantage of beauty. To find employment seems impossible until Mrs Grey from Carrick St Agency provides her with a disguise, and a post in the house of Lord Peirce.

I have absolutely no idea why I ever bought this book, especially given the poor reviews on Amazon. Suffice to say, although I finished it, that was only because I hate doing laundry more than I hated this book.

Look, I’m all for people self-publishing books and want to support them whenever possible, but there needs to be at least one other set of eyes looking at it before one publishes. This obviously did not happen here.

There are spelling mistakes (“sort out his face” instead of “sought out his face”), abysmal punctuation and editing (” Mrs Grey on tenterhooks, she suddenly wished she had asked Miss Larch it she was afraid of dogs, the late governess and described them as “hell born hounds” and shook with terror at the memory.”), anachronistic phrases (“[he] was on the ball”) and a grab bag of cliches and plot devices flung onto paper/screen in a jumble of words.

The only redeeming factor was the hero fell in love with the heroine before her “enchanting beauty” was revealed. Oh and the cover, I really like the cover image.

Not recommended.
